VIENNA, Va., July 10, 2012 —NJVC today announced that the company has embarked on a new data center hosting strategy: a multi-pronged approach that involves highly secure facilities for managed and cloud hosting services in geographically diverse locations across the United States. NJVC will use time-tested, real-world infrastructure and rapid provisioning tactics that will protect its customers’ business-critical data from weather-related outages like those that impacted many companies recently during the powerful storms that swept throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. The company-owned and -managed facilities, including an integrated “data center within a data center,” operate within the geographically targeted facilities of NJVC strategic infrastructure suppliers.
“The new NJVC data center hosting, data storage and software-as-a service (SaaS) support programs add a new dimension to the company’s data center services’ offerings and its ability to provide enhanced services to customers,” saidJody Tedesco, NJVC president. “The NJVC strategy focuses on customers that have high security requirements, such as the federal government and commercial companies in markets ranging from healthcare to financial services and energy. This strategy is designed to maximize the use of assets and optimize human capital to ensure that NJVC can deliver the performance, specialized support services and ultra reliability to meet customer demands in the most cost-effective manner possible.”
The NJVC managed/cloud hosting service offerings are designed for rapid deployment, ease of on-ramping, massive scalability, ultra reliability and high security, according to Tedesco. The company is positioning its hosting services to mid-size customers or divisions of large enterprises in industries that require high security for their information technology enterprise operations, both public and private.
NJVC also offers a security program specifically designed for federal government customers based on years of experience providing data center support for the defense and intelligence communities. NJVC offers these customers a highly configurable array of managed services that reduce the burden of maintaining a secure infrastructure for complex application environments while ensuring operations comply with current regulations and defend against continuously changing cyber security threats.
As a first step in implementing this strategy, the company announced the availability of the managed services capacity in a hardened, high-performance data center in Richmond, Va.—a 1.3 million square foot data center that comprises one of the largest and most secure facilities on the East Coast. The security standards and practices in a “hardened” environment are much more stringent than in a traditional, “softer” facility.
The data center campus in Richmond is specifically engineered for both ultra security and reliability, incorporating the following features¬:
- Energized fence around the campus perimeter
- K-12 delta vehicle barriers, with K-12 rated fencing at all vehicle entrances
- Hardened 24x7x365 visitor screening facility rated National Institute of Justice Ballistic Level 3
- Metal detection devices and x-ray scanning instruments to screen all visitors
- Central command center, with 24x7x365 security staff and roving armed security officers
- Security monitoring with video surveillance and security cameras
- Card access, biometric fingerprint and iris scan identification systems throughout the facility
NJVC operates a specially hardened services stack inside the facility, provisioned to meet demanding security requirements/regulations, including, but not limited to, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements No. 16, Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standards, Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) High or Moderate, and Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) .
Like the services provided in Richmond, all NJVC data centers will be engineered to rapidly meet the evolving demands of NJVC customers, including those who signed up under NJVC SaaS Accelerate, an innovative infrastructure hosting and managed services program designed to accelerate the growth and success of software-as-a-service companies, Tedesco said.
The NJVC Richmond data center operations are expected to be rapidly supplemented by additional facilities, including a dedicated NJVC data center in Reno, Nev. scheduled for launch in mid-July.
